ANSWERED PRAYERS CNU launches student portal

Cebu Normal University (CNU) presents student portal last November 18, 2020 for undergraduate and graduate students wherein they can view their grades online; further developments will be anticipated.

Normalites can now view their grades conveniently using their mobile phones by using their student ID and password they used when accessing the kiosk located at the TAC building before the pandemic.

Students no longer had to queue up for about half an hour just to view their grades.

This portal has its significance to the new normal set-up as education is now in a new landscape.

Undergraduate and graduate students may access the student portal under the Registrar tab of the CNU website at cnu.edu.ph.

TRANSITION

Niel Joseph Iyog, the SSC President in CNU main campus, said during an exclusive interview with Dilaab Publication that this student portal is all about shifting from the traditional means of getting grades or accessing different documents such as the study loads, grades and many more possibilities to be used in the portal into an instant and modern approach.

“From the shift to the traditional means nga molinya pa ka, igo na laman nimong e-check sa website because before it was very hard for us students kay kung mokuha ta’g grado, kinahanglan nga molinya pa ta sa kiosk and there was only one kiosk functioning, just very hard,” he said.

(From the shift to the traditional means, we can just instantly check it on the website because before we need to line up in getting our grades and there was only one kiosk functioning, just very hard.)

The student portal is yet in its first phase but afterwards, students should expect a fast-track processes where everything will be in there: from getting the grades, study loads, checking the balances and any other documents.

“The CNU portal does not just stop there, it still in its first phase of development, and it goes beyond just viewing your grades. Puhon napod, it will be used to check your study load, subjects, balances and even voting for SSC,” he said.

“CNU portal is not just about shifting our automated processes; there are still more things to come; and it is still being developed and nurtured by the admin. In fact, it will be used someday for the enrollment in the near future,” he added.

IMPLEMENTATION

According to Mr. Omar Roma, CNU Data Protection Officer, the CNU student portal was conceptualized before the pandemic.

“The student portal was fully functional last September this year, but still sought the approval of the University Administrative Council to make it online,” he said.

Meanwhile, Iyog further that the implementation was a long plan even before the COVID hits to respond the needs of the students.

“This was planned a long ago, this was really well thought of even in its process of creation to the implementation process and its developing phase. So dili jud sya ingon nga karon lang, na-timing lang gyud nga na implement sya during COVID but we urged this to be implemented so there would be an easy access and fast-track of processes when it comes to the needs of students,” he said.

The implementation was just timely due to the COVID, but we urged this to be implemented so there would be an easy and fast-track of processes when it comes to the needs of students.)

In addition to that, CNU urged to implement the student portal not to be left behind from other State University Campuses all around the Philippines that were already adopting fast-track processes via online.

CNU being one of the prestigious universities in the Philippines should really cope up with the ever-changing means of university.

Iyog concluded that the CNU portal was made for the purpose of modernization but keeping the quality of excellence.

With fewer steps, students can now check their grades at home.
