A founder and a leader of the nationalist Katipunan society that advocates complete independence of the Philippines from Spain; a Filipino revolutionary hero — Andres Bonifacio.
Today, November 30 in red marks the 157th birthday of Andres Bonifacio, the Father of Philippine Revolution. He grew up experiencing the struggles of the society. At his young age he stopped his schooling to earn a living as a craftsman and then as a messenger. However, he was self-studying and learn to understand the unfairness of the Spaniards towards his fellow Filipinos from the works of Dr. Jose Rizal — leading him to join La Liga Filipina.
When La Liga Filipina was dissolved upon the arrest of Rizal, Bonifacio in 1892 founded the Kataas-taasan Kagalang-galang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (KKK) and was later on elected as the Supremo of the revolutionary organization. It was a secret society which aims to be free from the Spaniards. Members had a blood-compact following the ceremonial rites of the society.
In 1896, the Katipunan was defeated by the Spaniards. It was split into two; Magdalo led by Emilio Aguinaldo and Magdiwang led by Bonifacio. The differences of the group led to what happens the next year.Aguinaldo had Bonifacio arrested; with a firing squad, Bonifacio was executed at the age of 33.
